Now is a good time to bring your passion and creativity to bear. Why wait not to be afraid or for someone else to grant permission?
Those of us with the courage, naiveté, or both to put it all on the table and leave nothing behind are most likely to become game-changers. Frankly, fear will always be there, and not knowing is a great advantage – if I am willing to put forward my ideas and run the risk of aggressive pushback from those who do.
My job and yours is to risk ridicule, dismissal, failure, and, yes, success, by having the audacity and courage to go for it while knowing that to do so is to overcome fear and uncertainty in the service of a life fully led and redefining the possible.
Just think, when Picasso revealed Les Demoiselles d’Avignon in 1907, he was ridiculed mercilessly. Now, it hangs prominently at MOMA as one of the most cherished works in its collection and is considered by many to be one of the most important works in the history of art. By daring to see and depict the human form differently, Picasso opened the door to a century of bold exploration.
Who would have imagined that sharing thoughts in bursts of 140 characters or less could overthrow governments or shape the global public debate? But, Twitter is now a powerful influence that exceeds the bounds of geography and the control of governments and militaries. Coordinating strategies and movements, regular citizens in the Middle East overcame decades of suppression.
